ABOUT US

Jennifer Janeway Home is the new home and lifestyle boutique and showroom from Jennifer Janeway Designs, a Pittsburgh-based interior design firm. We’re a small and mighty team of designers who love color, pattern and traditional design, and creating amazing homes for our clients.

 

Opening in August of 2024, our first retail location in Sewickley and will have an assortment of tabletop, soft goods, accessories, art, custom furnishings, and will also host community events.

We’re currently searching for candidates with a mix of sales, retail experience, and a strong interest in interior design to join our growing team!

​

ABOUT THE ROLE: This role will focus primarily on retail operations, sales, and customer service– all while being surrounded by lovely things in our shop!

​

WHO YOU ARE: This position will be critical to our new location, and we’re looking for a candidate who can juggle multiple priorities with a warm demeanor and a smile on their face. We’re a busy design firm, and we need team members who can roll up their sleeves and jump in, and make an immediate contribution. If you have a stack of home magazines sitting next to your open Instagram account and an Excel spreadsheet or two, you might just be our perfect candidate!

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

  • Providing outstanding product knowledge and exceptional customer service.

  • Knowledge of the POS system in the store, including inventory management. Prepare re-orders for approval, and make suggestions on alternative or additional products based on current sales and customer feedback. 

  • Create visually appealing merchandise displays consistent with the brand. 

  • Run the store’s social media posts that highlight product, events and promotions. 

  • Collaboratively create and manage to sales targets for the store. Analyze sales figures and forecast future sales trends.

  • Train additional Sales Associates on product, customer service, and sales, and participate in Performance Management of staff. 

  • Implement effective strategies to optimize store productivity and profitability.

  • Coordinate in-store promotions and events. 

  • Participate in store events, including setup, facilitation, and cleanup. 

  • Maintain a clean and tidy store environment. 

  • Ability to work weekends based on predetermined schedule, and occasionally after hours during events.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

Professional Skills 

 

  • Excellent sales and verbal communication skills, including a friendly, welcoming, outgoing demeanor. 

  • Willingness to learn, be creative and take initiative – see a problem, fix a problem! 

  • Visual merchandising of product in a retail environment, ideally related to interior design. 

  • Mathematical aptitude for calculating pricing, discounts, commissions, and measurements. 

  • Ability to establish and manage sales goals for self and others. 

  • Ability to provide mentorship and management to staff in a retail environment. 

  • Exceptional organizational skills. 

  • Keen interest in interior design and appreciation for aesthetics. 

 

 

Technical Skills 

  • Experience with a point of sale (POS) system, inventory management and financial reporting. 

  • Knowledge of social media tools and marketing strategies, specifically Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. 

  • Knowledge of Excel and Canva. Ability to manipulate data in Excel for upload into POS and reporting.

  • Knowledge of interior design terminology (i.e., CFAs, backorders, commission, mark-up, trade-only, wholesale, RFQs, etc.) 

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle. 

  • Physically able to lift and carry inventory and light furnishings when required, up to 35 lbs.
